This is a critical and high-impact strategic leadership role within Google DeepMind’s Technology Strategy (TechStrat) function, specifically on the Compute team. The role will drive AI strategy, infrastructure investments, and AI product portfolio optimization across Google. As compute is a key ingredient for AI model leadership, serving success, and next-generation research, this leader will make high-impact decisions that will define Google's success and influence the future of AI globally. The position involves framing key strategic decisions for senior leadership based on deep analysis of AI investments, optimization options, industry understanding, financial modeling, and product strategy. The goal is to maximize product and AI impact for Google and humanity, ensuring strategies are executed flawlessly through cross-functional partnerships.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and drive clarity on Google's long-range strategic questions in AI.
- Create and partner on comprehensive product and policy plans.
- Model scenarios and tradeoffs to develop strategies for maximizing AI value and optimizing AI investments.
- Create content for SVP+ forums, including presentations and communications.
- Develop a monitoring view to keep programs accountable.
- Collaborate with operational teams to ensure company-wide mandates are set up for success.
- Maintain a catalog of ongoing experiments and proposed innovations.
- Identify and implement solutions for gaps in processes and information.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science/EE or equivalent practical experience.
- 15+ years of product management experience in a technology-driven company at scale.
- Proven track record in driving 0-to-1 product capabilities and incubating new technical initiatives.
- Exceptional organizational talent for running high-velocity, high-impact strategic programs.
- Stellar verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to SVP/VP+ level audiences.
- Extensive experience in product operations and business strategy.
- Strong analytics, strategy, and data fluency.
- Experience in a role dealing with machine learning and/or compute.
- Innovative problem solver capable of turning ambiguous problem spaces into clear solutions.
- Ability to influence without direct authority in technical and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with the role of compute and data in building LLMs.
- Strong product vision and sensibility, with experience embedding applied AI capabilities into products.
- 5+ years of product strategy work experience managing complex, technically challenging projects.
- Quantitative and analytical mentality to understand user needs.
- Experience navigating sensitive organizational dynamics.
- Experience collaborating within data-driven or quantitative-focused teams.
- Consistent record of creative problem solving and bias towards action.
- Outstanding business judgment.
- Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
